Last updated 3/25/2015

According to the Church Manual, Edition 18, pp 168-169, "Everyone involved in work with children who are minors must meet all Church and legal standards and requirements".

Children's Ministries & Volunteer Screening

The Seventh-Day Adventist Church has a moral and civil duty to protect the children and youth entrusted to its care.  The church is committed to providing a safe worship and educational environment to help children and youth learn to love and follow Jesus Christ.

On October 22, 2014 House Bill 435 (PN 4225) was signed into law becoming PA Act 153 effective 12/31/2014.  This has caused major changes in the way that we are now required, by law, to process volunteers.  Please see the Department of Human Services Frequently Asked Questions list for more information on requirements.

The PA Conference has created business accounts with Cogent Systems (FBI Fingerprinting) and the PA State Police Criminal Record repository.  Please complete the Background Check Authorization & Disclosure Form so that we may order/register these two clearances for you.

FBI Fingerprinting - Once we have registered you with Cogent Systems for fingerprinting, we will give you the required registration number and a list of locations that do fingerprinting.  You must have the registration number with you in order to be fingerprinted.  If you have been a continuous resident in the state of Pennsylvania for the last 10 years and have not been convicted of any of the crimes listed, you may fill out the Waiver Form and not be required to complete an FBI Fingerprinting.

PA State Police Criminal Record Check - PA Conference will order this using the information on the Background Check Authorization & Disclosure Form.

Child Abuse Clearance - This form must be completed by the volunteer.  Please fill out and mail or fax to the PA Conference at the address listed below.  The PA Conference will mail in the request along with payment.

Please be patient as we work through these new laws and requirements.

MAIL OR FAX THESE FORMS TO PA CONFERENCE OF SDA, BACKGROUND CHECKS, 720 MUSEUM ROAD, READING PA 19611, FAX 610-374-9331.

DO NOT EMAIL ANYTHING WITH A SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER ON IT!

Background screening is essential to these requirements and mandatory.  Before any individual is allowed to work with children, whether as an employee of the Seventh-day Adventist Church or as a volunteer driving for a school field trip in one of our local schools, or churches, PA State background checks must be completed.
