SPECIAL COLLECTION OF MATERIALS FOR THOSE REFLECTING
ON THE TOPIC OF WOMEN IN MINISTRY IN THE ADVENTIST CHURCH
With the Columbia Union calling for a special constituency meeting on July 29 in regards to Adventist women serving in ministry, many of our Pennsylvania members are eager to know what Biblical, Spirit of Prophecy and Adventist historical experiences speak to this issue and are influencing this discussion.
We are providing a wide range of materials, including historical Adventist documents, Ellen White counsel and present research papers for your edification on this website. The materials have been grouped into several topical files, which you will find listed at this location.
If you would want to grasp the essentials of the different perspectives of the key issues, you may wish to read several files:
Samuel Koranteng-Pipim, Ph.D. has authored an article entitled: “
Leadership in the Church.”
A sermon by Doug Bachelor, entitled, “
Doug Bachelor Women Pastors – a Biblical Perspective.”
Alongside of these articles, I would recommend you also read an article by Dr. Richard Davidson of the Andrews University Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary, entitled: “
R Davidson -- Women in Ministry AU Pres” which deals with the Biblical and theological perspective on the question of women in ministry. Then another article with an extensive survey of Ellen White’s counsel and position on women in ministry is authored by Dr. Jerry Moon of Andrews University, “
A Power that Exceeds.”
Of special note to us as members in Pennsylvania, is an article about an outstanding woman here in Pennsylvania named Jessie Weiss Curtiss. You must read “
Benton – Called by God” as it is part of our Adventist history in Pennsylvania.
Then there are a large number of historical articles from Adventist history, church practice and policy, research papers and Bible texts.
All of these are placed here in order that you may gain a further understanding and appreciation of the issues so that together, we can pray, study and seek the leading of the Lord.
May God bless all of us in Pennsylvania as we seek for God’s blessing, direction and power for mission.
Ray Hartwell, President
Pennsylvania Conference of Seventh-day Adventists
